About The Event
Our weekend begins with making an indigo “mother” in preparation for the indigo vat on Friday afternoon. On Saturday we will learn resist techniques with wax based on West African batik techniques Kenya learned during her time in Ghana. Once fabric is prepared participants will immerse their fabric in indigo. Sunday we will close with a reveal of the work and discussion on how these ancient techniques are made relevant through continued practice, innovation and experimentation.

Workshop Fee
On Friday afternoon we will make an iron vat, the bulk of instruction comes on Saturday learning resist techniques, and dyeing. Sunday we will reveal our work and engage in discussion on the nature and practice of ancient techniques in our current culture - what connections can we uncover, how do we make these ancient practices relevant today, and what can we learn from each other? Who is a "master" in these practices? NOTE: Suggested price is $145 - no one turned away for lack of funds.
